Costume and Outfit Designs from Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time is a hit show on ABC, spinning the tale of the fairy tale creatures we grew up with and cherish- from Snow White to the Wicked Witch in Oz, to the most recently popular Frozen. However, what truly makes this show so creative and magical is the costume designing. The costumes are what make the fairy tale come to life. The details put into the designing are exquisite and stunning.

For example, above is a photo of Georgina Haig as Elsa and Elizabeth Lail as Anna during the fourth season of Once, which was all about Frozen and Elsa finding Anna who is missing while Elsa was locked away. (See how exciting this show is!) The designers and the writers wanted to keep Frozen's look true to who the characters were. Recreating the exact outfits as the characters they got everything down to an exact point- from Anna's detailed flowery dress and gold swirl designs on her boots to Elsa's flowing blue dress and even her coronation outfit is spot on. The point being is the design is unspeakably spot on.

Above is the Evil Queen from 'Snow White'. However, she also goes by Regina. The Evil Queen's outfits are always changing and always becoming more and more fierce and the amount of beautiful details in them make you examine each outfit carefully. Personally, her outfits are always my favorite because of how amazing they look in every episode. Eduardo Castro is the costume designer for Once, and has described the costume looks as a twist of fairy tale with an Alexander McQueen style. He did not want them to look like the usual Disney or fairy tale looks but rather make them seem like rock stars or rocking the runway.

So if you do not watch the show, then here is a little spoiler... the show starts out on the Evil Queen casting a spell to send all the fairy tale creatures to a land without magic (Our world) in a small town in Maine called Storybrooke. When in our world, they have different names and do not remember their old lives or any of their memories, (until the spell is broken and they get their memories back, but you have to watch the show to find out how that happens). Anyway, in our world, their outfits are just as fierce. Here is Regina, who no longer is the Evil qQueen and goes by Regina Mills Mayor of Storybrooke. Regina's Storybrooke look is all about keeping a more professional look of silk blouses, little black dresses, grey blazers. Yet, she always has a beautiful look to her profesional style.

Regina is not the only amazing look in StoryBrooke. Here are just a few looks of the modern characters from the Enchanted Forest:

Here is the main star of the show, Emma Swan, the Daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming who is known as the savior. Her go-to style is a pair of jeans and a leather jacket, especially her red one. But she also can be drop dead gorgeous when she wants to be.

Another one of my favorite looks in Storybrooke is Belle [Beauty and the Beast]. Her style is very girly and very preppy. She is still getting used to the world and still manages to have better style than most people would after coming from a completely different enviroment.

Her enchanted forest look, however, is still gorgeous.

This is Red Riding Hood, also known as Ruby. She is fiery and gorgeous. You cannot help but love her old renaissance mid-evil outfit, but her Style in Storybrooke is just as fierce and still keeps it classic red.

This is Mulan, the fiesty maiden who is capable of taking care of herself. And the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, also known as Regina's Mom Cora.

This wicked witch has wicked style. She may be green, but people are green with envy over her stylish looks.

Ah Elsa, how beautiful you look even when you are trying to be mad.

Just look at the details that went into this dress.

Snow White and Prince Charming's wedding look has always been a fan favorite. It gives the total fairy tale style an unforgettable touch.

Cinderella is seriously on point. Her iconic look is still there, along with some beautiful beading. Cinderella's dress is one of my favorites because of how it simply just looks so stunning. Everyone wants to be Cinderella and she does not let us down in her gorgeous look for the ball.

This is the Snow Queen. She is Anna and Elsa's aunt and is actually a villian. It is so hard to tell with the gorgeous white dress, but she is trying to keep Elsa all to herself and phase Anna out of the picture...permanently. DUN DUN DUN.

Again Captain Hook, always has a charming grin and dashing pirate look with the jewelry and the black leather trench coat. He looks like a true pirate and gives it a sleek villian look.

This is one of Snow's on -the- run outfits, hiding from the evil queen Snow has to venture on her own and learn to become a hunter and take care of herself. She does so while looking fabulous. I cannot even sit in a tent outside because I am afraid of bugs and its hot and sweaty. So needless to say the costume makes Snow look pure, yet stylish and ready to fight.

The costumes in this show are absolutely STUNNING. The amount of work that goes into every piece is amazing and shows how dedicated they are to making this world come to life for the viewers.
